INTER MELANIN
After the Lionesses won the Euros, grassroots women’s football teams started popping up all over the nation.
As empowering as that was to see, I still didn’t see myself in those teams, made up of majority White players.
So I decided to create my own.
Taking up space since April 2023.
Inter Melanin is a football team for women and non-binary people who are Black and of Colour.
For people who deserve to see themselves in football. To build communities. To belong. To play.
Since creating Inter Melanin, we have expanded into two teams - Inter Melanin South London, and Inter Melanin North London,
with over 300 people on our waiting list. It has evolved to become not just a football team, but a form of community care.
Our mission is to get as many women and non-binary people who are Black and of Colour on the pitch as possible.
We’re winning when we’re supporting our entire community, not just the people on our teams.
We want Inter Melanin to grow as a platform because when we have a stage, our voices can be heard.
